An exploratory assessment to explore whether either (or both) Autistic or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) traits make sense of your experience. This process integrates structured screening tools with discussion of your history, system profile and lived experience.
Taking an integrative, whole-body approach, we consider how nervous system patterns, masking, burnout, trauma, and health factors intersect with possible Autistic and ADHD traits.
It is a chance to be heard, explore the idea of a neurodivergent identity and get an indication of whether progressing to a full assessment (or self-identification) is worthwhile. Please note that this service does NOT provide a formal diagnosis.
Alternatively, If you already hold a formal diagnosis for either ADHD, Autism or both, this session can be useful for further exploration of your sensory profile, executive functioning or other areas upon request.

The NeuroType Exploration Session is not a formal diagnostic process and does not produce a comprehensive report that would be necessary for NDIS. Unless you already hold a formal diagnosis of Autism or another NDIS-eligible disability, you cannot apply for NDIS funding after this session.
As a Psychologist, I am NOT able to prescribe ADHD medication such as stimulants. These types of medications must be prescribed by a Psychiatrist (a medical doctor with additional mental health training), not a Psychologist. Both Psychologists and Psychiatrists can diagnose ADHD. However, Psychiatrists come from a biochemical/medical background and Psychologists come from a more cognitive (i.e. brain) and social sciences background. This means that Psychologists often do a more comprehensive assessment of executive functioning ('brain functioning' assessment) but lack the ability to prescribe medication. This is where Psychologists and Psychiatrists can effectively work together to support holistic care.
You can pay for your assessment in two ways:
1) Pay the base amount in full - Get invoiced for the full amount (e.g. $620 for an NeuroType Exploration with letter) and then pay any additional costs if necessary as they arise.
2) Pay as you go - Get invoiced for each individual stage of the process (e.g. $360 for appointment or $240 for questionnaire interpretation and letter writing), spreading the payments out. For an outline of all these, see the full cost breakdown. Please also be aware that the letter will not be released to you until full payment has been received.
Our online invoice payment gateway also offers Buy Now, Pay Later options offering instalments.
To be eligible to book at the concession rate, you must have a valid healthcare or pension card. This must be sighted by Ruby prior to booking.
Yes (typically). We can conduct exploration / screening on standard Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) or Chronic Condition Management Plans (CCMP). However, if you request to focus on an area that requires a more formal assessment type, your ability to claim it on your MHTP or CCMP may cease.
Currently, I only accept referrals for individuals aged 16 years and over.
As all services are provided via telehealth, clients need to be comfortable using computer technology, able to participate in extended video appointments, and willing to complete online forms and electronic document signing. Parents, caregivers, or nominated representatives can assist with some administrative tasks where appropriate.
If your child is under 16 years of age, I am unfortunately unable to provide an assessment. However, I do offer parent and caregiver support. You are welcome to seek support in your own right to discuss your concerns, better understand your child's needs, and explore strategies to support them at home, school, and in everyday life.
Currently, NeuroNest Psychology operates exclusively as an online service, meaning we do not have an office space for you to attend appointments in person. If you find an aspect of telehealth difficult, I encourage you to discuss it with us to see if we can problem solve around it. If unable to, we can refer to other assessment services that offer similar services in-person.
I am a generally registered psychologist. A clinical psychologist is also a generally registered psychologist. By Australian law, all generally registered psychologists have the same ability to diagnose and provide documentation to support a diagnosis (i.e. reports and letters). While some organisations may misunderstand this and request documentation by a clinically endorsed psychologist, this is not based in fact. If you are concerned about this or have heard from others that you need to see a ‘clinical psychologist’, please read more about this on the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc DIAGNOSTIC CAPACITY OF REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGISTS IN AUSTRALIA fact sheet or feel free to contact directly to address your questions.
