Welcome to NeuroNest

NeuroNest Psychology was founded in May 2025 by neurodivergent psychologist Ruby Simms-Cumbers during a time of deep reflection and recovery from burnout.

Through both personal and professional experience, Ruby identified a clear gap in the support systems surrounding neurodivergent individuals. Many frontline professionals, including those in support work, education, and healthcare, lacked the training and confidence to offer care that truly affirmed neurodivergent identities. Especially for those also living with trauma and chronic health conditions.

It is a requirement come December 2025 that all registered psychologists in Australia have an understanding of neurodiversity, affirming practice, trauma-awareness and appropriate accomodations.

In her clinical practice, Ruby often found herself spending considerable time on psychoeducation for clients’ extended support networks. She was frequently explaining the nuances of neurodivergent experiences, the importance of nervous system regulation, and the widespread impact of ableism and misunderstanding. It became clear that what was needed extended beyond the therapy room. There was a need for accessible, evidence-informed, and affirming education that could reach a broader audience.

NeuroNest Psychology also offers self-guided support for individuals such as self-paced courses and downloadable resources. These were developed in recognition of the many individuals who face barriers to accessing traditional in-person support. Ruby researched and saw how flexible, low-demand digital options could provide meaningful support to those who often fall through the cracks of the current system.

NeuroNest Psychology is a space for neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-aware training, consultation, and digital resources. It is grounded in lived experience, clinical insight, and a commitment to creating more compassionate, inclusive systems of care.

MEET THE FOUNDER & Director

Hey, I'm Ruby!

Ruby (she/her) has over a decade of experience working in the mental health and disability sector with a background in disability support work, therapy assistance and tertiary teaching. She is currently a Registered Psychologist but also holds postgraduate qualifications in Creative Arts Therapies and Child-Centred Play Therapy.

Her work often focuses on frequently-overlooked areas like high-masking and internalised (often female/AFAB) Autism presentations, PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance / Pervasive Drive for Autonomy), twice-exceptionality, and common co-occurring medical conditions (for neurodivergent individuals) such as POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), MCAS, Chronic Fatigue and connective tissue disorders (HSD/hEDS).

Ruby’s approach is holistic, creative, and grounded in body-mind awareness, aiming to foster inclusive systems that honour neurodivergent ways of being.

Fun Facts About Me

I AM AUTHENTICALLY ME

This fractal is Romanesco Broccoli

I am late-identified Autistic and ADHD (i.e. AuDHD)

I have Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and Dysautonomia/POTS which got worse after contracting COVID-19 in 2022.

I grew up in the Perth Hills and nature is very important to me. You will often find me staring closely at various plants, flowers and bugs (my favourite bug is the ladybug 🐞). I enjoy watching the miniature ecosystems and looking for patterns (I have included many pictures of fractals on this website as research shows that looking at these specific patterns calms the nervous system).

I love art and creativity! However, as a typical ADHDer, you'll find many half finished projects around my house.
